Community Television of Lane County Late Summer, 2009 Welcome to the CTV29 Newsletter! In This Issue: What's New at CTV29 The last 12 months have brought many welcome changes and updates to the station. Beginning summer 2008, we did major upgrades to the Studio and Control Room. The Studio was rewired to allow for easy access to video and audio feeds throughout. One wall was painted special blue to allow for "green screen" taping. Over the course of the fall and winter we installed special lights to enhance the green screen image. The green screen can be used with the new NewTek VT[5] Video Toaster audio/video switching system. If you have not been to the Studio for a while, come in and check out the new Control Room. We've been continuously making adjustments based on feedback from producers and directors, and continue to do so (see below for more). The VT[5] allows for "Live Set" and "Live Matte" recording of programs. Live Matte provides capture in front of the green screen, for post-production insertion of backgrounds. Live Set allows for recording with a virtual set, just like the big boys! You too can appear to be on a professional studio set with your broadcast! We continue to make improvements - a new computer has been installed in the Control Room, to provide digital program capture. If you are still using tape, you may want to take our newest Studio Production class, to get up to speed on use of the digital Control Room. CTV is moving to All-Digital, All The Time, very soon.... With the implementation of a new Head End system! That's right, we are getting a new
Head End, which will be optimized for digital programs. All digital programs will then
have to be in MP2 format. While the new Head End will have equipment for producers to
take their programs on tape and DVD and make digital files for playing on the channel, we
encourage all producers to provide their programs digitally on thumb drives or other
drives. Fund Raising Project! With the digital Head End coming on line in the next few months, we will need digital
editing stations. Our erstwhile "Chief Engineer" Joe Tyndall has been re-configuring the
upstairs workroom to accommodate 2 PC/Windows based editing workstations, and 2
MAC/OS-X based editing workstations. Board Member and Producer Judith Conrad has found an excellent fund raising The fund raising is done by selling Entertainment (TM) coupon books, which provide over $1100.00 in savings for a cost to the consumer of only $20.00! Of that, CTV will get a percentage of each book sold, and after we sell 50, the percentage goes up. We encourage each of you receiving this newsletter to purchase one for yourself, and tell a few of your friends about it! Please contact Judith at 844-1799 or conrad3198@comcast.net to order your book. We will have information about this on the http://www.CTV29.org website soon (where you can pay for a book with a cr edit or debit card or a PayPal account) Training Programs at CTV We are updating the Studio and Editing trainings to include the new control room and the digital editing workstations. Cost is still the same as before. Please come in for a refresher. Joe Tyndall will be teaching studio/control room. joe@earsi.com 541- 359-2593 Would you like to teach a class at CTV? Contact Larry Dobberstein with a proposal! CTV is a teaching studio, teaching builds membership, and provides a steady stream of enthusiastic new crew members! Calls for Crew Several producers are looking for more crew. Judith Conrad, who produces a live call-in show every Monday evening at 7 pm, is looking for crew, and her Director, Dan DeLuca, is willing to certify new directors (meaning you can get hands-on technical directing experience, on a live show!) Anyone who is a member can be on crew - bring a friend, sign them up, and they can get immediate hands-on experience! Please contact either Larry Dobberstein or Judith Conrad if you are interested in being on a crew. Membership Renewal Please Renew Your Membership! It's simple to do: visit http://www.CTV29.org and click
the PayPal button. Still only $10.00, by doing so yourself helps us keep our administrative
duties manageable. Please forward this newsletter to a friend and help CTV29 grow! Community Television of Lane County (CTV29)
